I do it cat back, I still want to pass e-test. An exhaust shop should not charge too much to cut out the muffler & resonater, and weld in some pipe.

Maybe not stupid, but certainly antisocial and I’d hope you’d be ticketed until you had them reinstalled.

98% of people will think it’s just broken and you can’t afford to fix it or that you don’t know how to. Plus paying a shop to cut your mufflers is hilarious just on it’s own. The anti-social aspect also extends to pissing off new families with small children and old car guys who know how pointless and gross sounding what you are doing is and how nobody thinks it’s cool, and/or all of the above. I did this stuff on old straight 6's and v8, and it was stupid.
Also, I like beating down loud cars with my Lexus, but they ask for it with their straight pipes. Must feel really stupid to be put in their place while wearing earplugs.

If you wanna invest in a trick muffler that switches between loud and quiet, I’d say no way, Jose.

first: that is not a straight pipe. its a muffler delete
second: its a terrible idea and you deserve every ticket you get for it

I did that once when a vendor sent me a muffler with a badly welded seam.
I sent it back, but while I was waiting, I ran without one. It was easy to do since the tailpipe bolted right up the the cat.
It was cool for about a day and a half.

It will sound a lot less cool than you imagine it will.

I see you’re getting some pushback for it being too loud, but I’m not sure it would be. It’s a 1.6T... it’s a small displacement and the turbo will muffle a lot of the noise. Think about the 500 Abarth... it is a 1.4T with straight pipes from the cat back. With the Juke you have a little Bigger motor, but also a little more length of piping. Yes, the 500 Abarth is a little loud, but not enough that it can’t be sold like that from the factory. I’d actually be surprised if nobody has done this yet. Have you seen any videos to give you an idea of what it would be like? If not, I’d say go for it. Shouldn’t be too expensive and also pretty easy to just put the original back if it is too obnoxious. You could even have the shop weld a flange on both the straight pipes and your original pipes with muffler at the cat so that you could put it back on yourself.

Straight pipe would be nixing the cat too, but I don’t think it will be too bad without a muffler since it has a turbo. Looking it up online, it seems like there are more people doing muffler deletes on these than I was expecting.

Haha, do wear ear plugs when I’m driving my car for more than about a half an hour.

DO IT. I doubt a Juke would sound very good like that but at least it would be loud. It is surely stupid but that doesn’t make it any less awesome.

Ha, I recognized the tach and tie down before I realised it’s obviously a vanagon.. Also the 500 to 2500 rpm hunt..
